Type MC is an interlocked armored cable assembly that was introduced in 1960 and is still used today. This traditional branch circuit MC meets UL Standard 1569 and NEC 330. Unlike its predecessor, Type AC cable, Type MC cable does not have a conductor count limit and offers various conductor bundle combinations. All MC conductors are THHN/THWN rated and are twisted and wrapped with polypropylene assembly tape. Additionally, all traditional Type MC Cables come with an insulated green equipment grounding conductor as opposed to Type AC's integral bond wire/armor equipment ground fault path. This traditional Type MC Cable features a high-strength, galvanized steel interlocked armor for mechanical protection, providing an equivalent to EMT and wire.
